• Confirm the proposed surgical plan and address any remaining questions
• Revisit any new considerations that have arisen since your first appointment
• Ensure you have had sufficient time to absorb all of the information provided

In accordance with Medical Board of Australia requirements, a minimum seven-day cooling-off period must elapse after your two consultations and signed informed consent before surgery can be scheduled or a deposit accepted. This interval exists to ensure your decision is considered, unhurried, and fully informed.

Once you have decided to proceed, our team co-ordinates every detail with precision and care. This includes:

• Tailored pre-operative instructions and any medication advice specific to your procedure
• Co-ordination of hospital admission and specialist anaesthetic planning

• Day surgery — for the majority of procedures
• Overnight stay — when clinically appropriate, most commonly for deep plane face and neck lift surgery, where overnight monitoring and comfort are recommended as standard

All surgery is performed in accredited hospital facilities in collaboration with specialist anaesthetists, in accordance with Australian safety standards.

Post-operative care is structured, attentive, and ongoing. You will receive:

• Detailed guidance on scar care, swelling management, and activity restrictions
• Monitoring of contour changes and functional improvements as healing progresses

Yes. Consultations with Dr Sparks are specialist medical consultations and attract a fee reflecting the time, clinical experience, and personalised care provided. Each consultation is conducted in an unhurried manner, allowing for thorough assessment and a detailed, individualised discussion.

Yes. A referral from your GP is required to book an appointment with Dr Sparks. A referral allows access to Medicare rebates where applicable, facilitates appropriate communication between your GP and Dr Sparks throughout your care, and ensures your management sits within accepted medical standards. If you are uncertain whether your referral is appropriate, our patient care team will be pleased to assist before your appointment is confirmed.

This depends on the medical indication for the procedure. Skin cancer, reconstructive, and functional procedures generally attract Medicare rebates, and private health insurance may contribute depending on your level of cover. Cosmetic procedures are not eligible for Medicare rebates or private health insurance benefits. In limited circumstances where a procedure is undertaken for both functional and cosmetic reasons, partial rebates may apply. All financial considerations are discussed transparently during your consultation.

As part of the informed consent process, Dr Sparks discusses the specific risks and possible complications relevant to your proposed procedure, the potential benefits and limitations of surgery, alternative treatment options including non-surgical approaches where appropriate, and the expected recovery process and follow-up requirements. This discussion is personalised, unhurried, and designed to support fully informed decision-making.

Yes. Dr Sparks personally performs all key components of every procedure he undertakes. He may be assisted by a qualified surgical assistant for elements such as retraction and dressing application. Dr Sparks remains responsible for the surgical plan, the execution of the procedure, and all post-operative care throughout.

The length of stay depends on the procedure performed and individual clinical factors. For a deep plane face and neck lift, an overnight stay is routinely recommended to allow for close monitoring and optimal comfort. Most other procedures are suitable for day surgery. Dr Sparks will advise you on the anticipated length of stay for your specific procedure during consultation.

Anaesthetic choice is guided by the procedure being performed and patient-specific considerations. Facial aesthetic and reconstructive procedures are most commonly performed under general anaesthesia. Skin cancer procedures may be undertaken under local anaesthesia, with or without sedation, depending on the extent of the procedure and patient preference. All surgery is performed in accredited hospital facilities in collaboration with specialist anaesthetists.

In selected cases, complementary treatments may be discussed as part of a comprehensive management plan. For patients undergoing facial aesthetic surgery, this may include anti-wrinkle injections, microneedling, or laser treatments where appropriate. These are considered individually and are not routine — their suitability, timing, and limitations will be discussed during your consultation.

Yes. Dr Sparks consults regularly at Fraser-Kirk Plastic Surgery on the Sunshine Coast, providing the same standard of specialist care for patients north of Brisbane. Surgery is performed at accredited hospital facilities, and the patient care team at Fraser-Kirk will co-ordinate your journey from enquiry through to post-operative follow-up.
